Maserati did a global virtual launch of the New Ghibli Hybrid, the first ‘electrified’ model by the Trident brand. The new Maserati Ghibli ushers in a new era for the Trident brand.

The Ghibli line has been one of the core models for Maserati, with over 100,000 produced since the Ghibli debuted in 2013. Fast forward to today, the Ghibli in hybrid form takes nothing away from the model’s core philosophy and retains plenty of Maserati core values, such as the unmistakable sound that has always distinguished every Maserati. The Ghibli hybrid has optimized exhausts with better resonators to give the car a more distinguishing sound note.

Like the Ghibli petrol and diesel, the hybrid version gets some new designs and a special Blue to acknowledge its hybrid class. Special blue is applied to the side air ducts, brake calipers and tthunderbolt in the oval that encloses the Trident emblem on the rear pillar. Here’s are Ghibli hybrid’s highlights: redesigned grille at the front and the rear has restyled light clusters, with a boomerang-like profile inspired by the 3200 GT and the Alfieri concept car.

More special Blue is available inside the car, in particular on the embroidered seams of the seats. The Maserati Connect application makes its debut in the new Ghibli hybrid; this app performs checks on the car and monitors safety security services in emergencies. Aside from the Connect, there’s Intelligent Assistant multimedia system with 10.1-inch HD screen alongside a new instrument panel with digital devices and new graphics.

As this Ghibli is a hybrid, Maserati has decided to go with a mild hybrid instead of going full up. Maserati’s goal is to better performance, as well as reduce fuel consumption and cut emissions. The hybrid technology on this Ghibli exploits the kinetic energy as the car accumulates when in motion, recovering it and transforming it into electricity during deceleration and braking, and storing it in a battery. The powertrain is made up of a 2.0l engine, a 48 volt alternator and an additional electric supercharger (e-Booster), supported by a battery mounted at the rear. This setup assists to improve weight distribution. Overall weight is even reduced by about 80 kilograms less than the Diesel variant. Some the impressive output numbers of the Ghibli hybrid are 330 hp, 450 Nm of torque, a top speed of 255 km/h and a 0 – 100 km/h dash in 5.7 seconds.

The Ghibli hybrid represents Maserati’s first model in the electrification process. The Trident brand’s upcoming all-electric cars will be the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio, which are scheduled for 2021 release.
