The SKODA Octavia once made a little buzz in Malaysia under the now defunct Quasar Carriage distributorship. Since then, the Skoda brand has since vanished off the face of Malaysian shores. Bermaz Motor, the distributors for Mazda cars, once dabbled in it but didn’t take long before they gave it up to focus solely on the more popular and appealing Zoom-zoom brand.
Skoda is of course an Eastern European car manufacturer, which hails from the Czech Republic. It is now under part of the Volkswagen group umbrella. Under the stewardship of VW, the brand thrived over the years with its core line-ups; the Fabia, Octavia and Superb. The Octavia has always been a much sought-after model since it came out in 1959. Skoda is now unveiling the best model yet since its re-launch in 1996.
The world debut of the All-new, fourth-generation Octavia continues to be the brand’s heart and engine as well as its top volume model. With more than 6.5 million units produced, it is the bestselling Škoda ever and has been a real icon for many years, both in its Czech home country as well as in numerous other markets around the world. The reasons for this are obvious: it features its own unique design and modern technology, it is efficient, extremely practical and high-quality; it offers exceptional amounts of space and superior value for money.
The New Skoda Octavia comes in two body types: Hatch and Combi (Estate). It’s longer and wider than its predecessor, the New Octavia has an even larger boot and is even more emotive thanks to the new Škoda design language. At a length of 4,689 mm, the hatchback is 19 mm and the Combi 22 mm longer than the third-generation model. Its width has increased by 15 mm. The Estate’s boot capacity, which is the largest in the segment, has increased by 30 liters to 640 liters. The hatchback has a capacity of 600 liters, 10 liters up from before.
Best description for the New Octavia is a razor sharp front end, coupled with those new LED headlights (optional full LED Matrix) and DRLs. At the side, the Octavia has a Coupe like silhouette whereas the Estate is longer with that familiar station wagon look when viewed from the side. From the rear, the car maintains a certain look from the previous generation with new LED rearlights. Wheels up to 19-inch are available for the Octavia. Color palette on the sheet comprises Crystal Black, Lava Blue and new Titanium Blue, including; Chrome or Dynamic options.
Moving inside, extra space is the basis along with all your modern day requirements i.e. connectivity, high-grade upholsrery and more. Highlights include the two-spoke steering, a redesigned dashboard with a large, floating central display, an elegant center console with chrome details, and door trims and handles in chrome. There’s new LED ambient lighting in ten different colors, the first ever Heads-up display, the latest infotainment systems and the brand’s famed Virtual Cockpit, featuring 10.25-inch screen in 4 layouts. At launch, the New Skoda Octavia is offered with powertrains that deliver from 81 kW (110 PS) to 150 kW (204 PS). There are these new variants: one natural gas, petrol with mild hybrid and eTec. In the Octavia 1.4 TSI petrol with electric motor, the car pushes an output of 150 kW (204 PS). But on all-electric mode, only up to 55 km can be achieved (WLTP cycle). The New Octavia is also available with eTEC variants, fitted with latest EVO-generation 1.0 TSI or 1.5 TSI petrol engines paired with mild hybrid technology. As an affiliate of VW, the New Octavia is fitted with a DSG shift-by-wire technology as standard.
