Volkswagen continues to break records with its latest offerings. The future for VW Is all about all-electric cars. The Volkswagen ID.R Beetle R, Beetle 1302 Salzburg and T-Roc R1 alongside the all-electric ID.R sports car and Golf R e-performance Concept were in the thick of the action for the GP Ice Race, last weekend in Austria. It was the 2nd edition of the GP Ice Race.

The GP Ice Race is a showcase featuring a combination of motorsport and circuit on ice in the middle of the Alps. Volkswagen took to the Ice Race to put on a show for the fans with a mixture of current and vintage cars. The event proved to be a good ground for VW to run its full-electric cars, too.

Although the Beetle is no longer in production, VW decided to showcase two special Beetles, one high-performance car, and a concept variant at the Ice Race. The Beetle 1302 S “Salzburg” flew around the ice track by drifting and rallying. At the other end, you have the powerful 550 PS Beetle R, driven by a U.S. Rallycross champion and team mate Tanner Foust and Hans-Joachim Stuck. VW has won the US Rallycross title five years in a row.

The two exciting Beetles were joined by the new production T-Roc R and a Golf R Concept. The new T-Roc R 4MOTION was able to hold its own on ice, while the Golf R concept car with four-wheel drive stole the spectators’ hearts at the show. The T-Roc R was driven by Benjamin Leuchter, who worked closely with VW T-Roc’s development team. Another race driver Jasmin Preisig from Switzerland was also in the thick of the action at the Ice Race in selected VW models.

Record-breaking Volkswagen ID.R on display

The fully-electric ID.R sports car, holder of records at Pikes Peak, Nürburgring-Nordschleife, Goodwood, and Tianmen Mountain, was the star of the ice Race show. Vw chose to put it on display, rather than risking unnecessary incidents with their prized possession.
