National carmakers Proton is looking to end the year on a high note. November was another record month for the Malaysian carmaker as sales increased by 100 percent, from 9,643 of various models delivered. Through the eleven months of the year, Proton has accumulated 89,476 total units, translating to a surge of 50.1% growth compared to last year. This remarkable turnaround gives Proton a market share of 16.2% for 2019.
The sales growth is supported by the models introduced at the end of 2018 and through 2019. The Proton Saga, introduced in August, reached 4,091 units in November for a total of 34,422 in 2019, This means the Saga tops the A-segment with a share of 32%.
Aside from Saga, the X70 SUV, the model which started Proton's uprise and entry into the SUV segment, took in 2,000 units in November. Other important models contributing to Proton's sales surge are the Iriz, Persona and Exora. Proton didn't reveal figures for these models as they couldn't possibly top the Saga and X70 in terms of sheer volume.
As we look to 2020, Proton announced the expansion of its Tanjung Malim manufactuing plant. The brand promises more efficient production and more quality products in the coming year, as part of the pledge shared by other members of the Geely Auto group of automotive brands. Proton is confident on achieving its manufacturing goals with its engineers and production line personnel. The goal is to prove that Malaysian built vehicles are comparable to global standard requirements.
