As a reminder to everybody in the industry, Proton has kept its continuous sales bragging rights announcements frequent to be directed to the media and the public. In a latest statement, they reported some 9,503 units for the month of October, which accumulated to 79,833 units for ten months. Compared to a year before, that’s a jump of 46 percent. The Malaysian TIV (Total Industry Volume) has in fact reduced by 1.3 percent.
With this solid increase in sales figures, Proton now has a much larger market share at 16 percent. A spike of 5.2 percent from 2018. This momentum is expected to be upkept for the remainder of the year and would keep Proton in second place in the country’s sales charts.
The sales figures are bumped up by the well-received X70 SUV and Saga models. The X70 has spurred Proton up the charts, literally single handedly. Till end of October, the X70 has achieved over 24,000 units sold. Talk about taking the market by storm, right?
Aside from the X70, Proton has unveiled several models to pump up the volume. One of the models that’s a winner is the Saga, which took up 28,000 bookings since it came out in August. This model posted its highest sales figure for over four years. 4,273 units were sold in October and over the year, it had a combined sales of 30,331 units, a 26% increase from 2018. When combined with the Evora, Iriz and Persona, the four models made up 78 percent of Proton’s total sales in October. For the year, the total sales for all four models is 68%.
It’s not only sales that is doing well, Proton’s network has been increasing too. Last month, four more dealerships join the bandwagon to make up 108 3s/4s outlets.
Watch out for Proton as they continue to take the market by storm. An upcoming compact SUV Is expected to make Proton a National stable in the local automotive industry.
