National carmakers Proton kept the pricing suspense for Iriz and Persona FL right up till the last minute into the late evening at the KL Convention Center, last evening. When they finally revealed the prices, there were plenty of cheers in the Grand Ballroom with the Proton Iriz FL announced with a starting retail price from RM 36,700 while the Persona FL begins at RM 42,600. This price range for Proton B-segments or compacts are competitive enough to challenge their strongest rivals’ models’ price range.
Both newer Protons were previously displayed at the Malaysia Autoshow, dealerships and a series of road tours at various hotspots.
Both latest Protons essentially share a similar platform with the Persona portrayed as a sedan and the Iriz pictured as fun and sporty. Our colleague at allcarschannel.com said it best, the starting Iriz FL Standard MT 1.3CVT Is packaged and priced well; “it’s like an Axia’s price in a MyVi body size”.
The Iriz is offered in five variants and the Persona FL has four variants. The Persona comes in 1.6l only and the Iriz is available with 1.6l and 1.3l options.
PROTON PERSONA AND IRIZ AT A GLANCE
Proton said that both models have been done up from ground up. There are over 300 new elements all around the cars from the front to the rear. We let you be the judge of that…
First up is the design, the Persona FL is styled to follow the X70 which everyone already know. But, the design is meant to be the future of Proton cars, as part of a company-wide strategy to make Proton a leading domestic manufacturer and brand again. They currently ranked third in the national rankings.
Moving inside, Proton stressed about the intelligent head unit in the Persona FL. This head unit is equipped with an embedded eSIM card and offers apps for music streaming, weather updates, navigation and of course, that ‘Hi Proton’ voice recognition. Access to the system is via a 7-inch full color touchscreen with 16GB of internal memory. There is also Wi-Fi connectivity and full mirroring capabilities. And hat’s not all, there’s voice command that could be accessed using the ‘Hi Proton!’ greet.
