National Carmakers Proton has announced its highest market share since July 2015 in a latest press statement. Sales in June hit 7,615 units, which denotes second highest for Proton this year, overall. This translates to a market share of 18.1% share in a month. The (TIV) total industry volume has reduced by 30.8% for the month, equivalent to 42,090 units.
The mid-year blues is always prevalent this time of the year, in this country. This season, the SST effect and post festive period were the main culprits for the sales drop across all brands.
Despite the downturn this year, Proton still posted a 23% hike, compared to June last year. This achievement puts Proton second on the sales charts for the third consecutive month. It also contributed to an overall sales growth of 61% for the first six months of 2019.
As always, the Proton X70 is largely the main contributor with 15,175 units sold in the first half of the year. Needless to say, it tops the SUV segment in the country. Aside from the top model, Proton’s other models like the Saga, Persona/Iriz and Exora all contributed to the sales pitch. The Saga had 2,541 units in June for 27% of the sales pie, and the Persona, Iriz and Exora all surged above 100%, compared to last season.
Proton’s CEO Dr Li Chunrong remarked, “Our year to date market share currently stands at 14.7% and is a big improvement of our 2018 figure of 10.8%. For the second half of the year, we will concentrate on continuing to build sales and introducing new, updated models.”
More outlets in the making
On new brand identity and increasing outlets count, Proton has accumulated 91 outlets, as at end of June. This makes them the largest in terms of outlet numbers, in this country.
