Proton as the New Sheriff in the Local Automotive Scene

Malaysians should probably have heard of the continued rise of National Carmakers Proton in the past year or so, not just in sales but in brand awareness and introduction of new products. Proton has consistently remind  local media on all facets of their company activities and especially sales announcement.  In a latest press statement, Proton has again announced its sales milestone, as at the end of September or the first three quarters of the year. This milestone denotes that the company has managed to achieve its 2018 total figures in just nine months of the year. For Proton, it is indeed something to shout about.

 

After the transition, Proton has bucked up and started focusing on a resurgence for both National and International fronts. New products are planned and it all began with the X70. Five new models were introduced within the first nine months, which led to Proton achieving a total of 70,330 units (domestic and export markets) for the first three quarters. Last year, the total was 64,744 units. This positive increment gives Proton a sense of accomplishment and they feel they are on track to post a substantial growth figure for the entire 2019.

In terms of market share, Proton has the highest share percentage. For September alone, Proton did 8,934 units, which is 97% better than last Sept’s 4,524 units. With that, Proton holds a market share of 20.2%. The rise in market share is an all-time high for a duration of 66 months. The company targets an estimated 15.8% market share when the year is up. Main contributor for Proton’s upbeat market share is the recently unveiled Saga model, which saw 3,994 units sold in all of September. This figure represented the highest number of monthly deliveries for a Proton model in 2019 and pushed the brand to the top position in the A-segment.  

 

Earlier, we mentioned that the Proton X70 began the National carmaker’s rise to the top of the local automotive chart. The X70 is the leader in the SUV segment, obviously. To recognize its contribution, Proton has announced special benefits for X70 buyers in the month of October. Now, the X70 comes with added discounted insurance and overtrade incentives, worth up to RM2,000. Standard 5-year free labor service, 5-year unlimited mileage warranty and 5-year Internet data packages are already included with the X70.

 

On its dealer network, Proton has now accumulated 104 3S/4S outlets in the country through the first nine months of the year. The company intends to portray a premium identity and invest further on training programs for sales and service staff. This is to ensure that they are rated higher in Sales Service Index (SSI) and Customer Service Index (CSI) scores. Proton is determined to establish more outlets before the year ends.
