Following its world premiere, the all-electric, all-new Porsche Taycan is ready for its U.S. premiere at the LA Auto Show. The Porsche highlights for the show are the Taycan 4S, Macan Turbo and the 99X Formula E race car.
The new Taycan 4S is offered with two types of battery: performance (530 PS) and performance plus (571 PS).
What the Taycan 4S brings to the table?
Following the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo, the Taycan 4S is the new starting point of the electric line-up. A single-deck Performance Battery with a gross capacity of 79.2 kWh is fitted as standard, while the two-deck Performance Battery Plus (gross capacity 93.4 kWh), familiar from the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo, is available as an option. Power output ranges from 530 – 571 PS, depending on the type of battery selected. Both variants of the Taycan 4S accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h. The distance range is up to 407 kilometers with Performance Battery and up to 463 kilometers with Performance Battery Plus (WLTP). Maximum charging power (peak) is 225 kW (Performance Battery) and 270 kW (Performance Battery Plus).
Taycan 4S Technical
the Taycan’s strengths also apply to the 4S. The permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle has an active length of 130 mim, which makes it exactly 80 mm shorter than that in the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo. With motors on the front and rear axles to facilitate all-wheel drive, as well as a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, the drive architecture of the 4S comprises the same main technical highlights as its siblings. This also applies to the car’s intelligent charging management and impressive aerodynamics: with a Cd value from 0.22, the aerodynamics make a significant contribution to low energy consumption and boost range.
The Taycan looks like a futuristic Porsche, everyone already know how it looks like since the Stuttgart Sports car brand started hyping about it way before its world premiere.
From the front, it looks particularly low and wide with highly contoured wings. The silhouette is shaped by the sporty roof line sloping downward to the rear. The sides are as sleek as ever on any Porsche before it. The cabin, the drawn-in rear D-pillar and the pronounced shoulders of the wings result in a sharply emphasized rear that is typical of the brand. There are also innovative elements such as the glass-effect Porsche logo, which is integrated in the continuous light bar at the rear.
The cockpit also signals the start of a new era with its clear structure and completely new architecture. The free-standing, curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the dashboard. A central 10.9-inch infotainment display and an optional passenger display are combined to form an integrated glass band in a black-panel look.
An integrated Porsche 4D Chassis Control analyses and synchronizes all chassis systems of the Taycan. The Taycan 4S has standard features like adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology including PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) electronic damper control. For braking, the calipers comprises red-painted six-piston aluminium monobloc at the front and four-piston aluminium at the rear, with 360 mm diameter at the front and 358 mm at the rear.
The other start of the LA Auto Show is the Macan Turbo. The top-of-the-line Macan Turbo houses a new 2.9-liter biturbo to boost 324 kW (440 PS), ten per cent more power than its predecessor from 20 per cent less displacement. It goes from 0 – 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds with an optional Sport Chrono pack; reaching a top speed of 270 km/h.
A highlight of the upgraded Macan Turbo chassis is the high-performance Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) system that is fitted as standard. Thanks to a thin tungsten carbide coating, it produces up to 90 per cent less brake dust compared with conventional cast iron brakes.
The Macan Turbo is updated for the year along with the other variants in the line-up. The flagship differs from the others with Turbo-specific front end and fixed roof spoiler with its double-wing design. Inside, there’re adaptive 18-way sports seats and a BOSE surround sound system.
