Peugeot is kick starting the year with a bang with the European premiere of the New 2008 and a host of its finest automobiles at the Brussels Motor Show, from 11 – 19 January.
The New Peugeot 2008 compact SUV takes up the brand’s new signature motifs, coupled with a bold and distinctive styling and new technologies. The major technology focus here is Peugeot proprietary i-Cockpit 3D, featuring a compact steering wheel, a large HD touchscreen and an innovative head-up 3D instrument panel.
This new compact SUV has updated driver assistance systems such as drive assist, park assist, blind spot monitoring, extended road sign recognition, driver attention alert and an active warning system of involuntary lane crossing.
The new Peugeot 2008 is offered in three options: petrol, diesel and EV. The 2008 EV is known as e-2008 which enables 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor and immediate torque of 260 Nm, thanks to a large-capacity 50 kWh battery that enables up to a range of 320 km. The battery has a rapid charge function.
Other main attractions for Peugeot at the show are the 208, e-208 and 508 Sport Concept. Let’s dive into the New-generation 208; this compact is derived from the Peugeot Fractal Concept. Like the new 2008, it’s got the brand’s latest offerings and design cues. With the e-208, the performance is similar to that of the e-2008. EV mode range is 20 km more at 340 km. Differentiating the e-208 from the standard 208 are a body-colored grille, dichroic lions that change color, an “e-208” badge at the rear and “e” lettering on the wings.
Next up is the Peugeot 508 Sport Concept, based on the radical 508 Hybrid sedan. This concept EV boasts distinctive and athletic styling, with a sharper front bumper, a narrower grille with floating blades, subframe flaps, quarter-light fins and a new diffuser at the rear. What’s cool is the concept has Selenium Grey body paint, which changes according to the light thanks to opalescent particles. When combined with “Kryptonite” inserts, the car looks very impressive. What about performance? The 508 Sport concept is said to be comparable to a 400 hp internal combustion car. It has four drive wheels and provides quick acceleration through a combination of a 200 hp PureTech petrol engine and two electric motors, 110 hp at the front and 200 hp at the rear. On all EV mode, range is limited to just 50 km for the time being.
The Peugeot stand at Brussels also feature an electrically assisted trekking bike with eT01 FS Crossover PowerTube, 308 & 308 SW, 3008 Hybrid4, 5008, Rifter MPV and Traveller MPV.
