Mazda Malaysia (Bermaz Motor) has announced that the soon-to-be-unveiled New CX-8 SUV is set to be a major showcase at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow in MAEPS, Serdang, from 11 – 14 April. The new Mazda CX-8 first came up in Japan at the Tokyo Motor Show in December 2017. It soon reached China at the Auto China in April 2018.
Previously, Mazda Malaysia had previewed the CX-8 at the Chinese New Year do in mid-February. The new three-row seater Crossover from Mazda is a flagship model, destined to replace its illustrious sibling, the CX-9. What was made clear during the first preview was the CX-8 would be a domestically assembled model and priced competitively. It would also be available in either a petrol version or a turbodiesel variant.
Mazda recommends the CX-8 to this specific age group between 30s and 40s, a more matured buyer and people with a mid-range or higher income level.
MAZDA CX-8 OVERVIEW
The Mazda CX-8 was first introduced with a dependable SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel. Its KODO - Soul of Motion design comprises an SUV style based on a flowing horizontal theme with a powerful form and a close semblance to CX-9 with some differentiation, for example; bulge in the shoulder area and the reflections that flow over the body surface. In dimensions, the CX-8 has an overall length of 4,900 mm, width of 1,840 mm and height of 1,730 mm.
Inside, the cabin is as Premium as available in a Mazda. It includes specially selected Nappa leather upholstery, real wood trims, meters and control switches laid out symmetrically and decorative trims; interior specifications for the local CX-8 may differ. Trim level available is either fabric or leather, and the seats come in two different types of captain’s chair seats (6-passenger layout) or a bench seat (7-passenger layout).
Engine choices are a SKYACTIV-D 2.2-liter turbodiesel option and 2.5l petrol at least for the local market. The CX-8 powertrain is likely to include a SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic transmission to achieve an output from 129 to 140 kW and maximum torque from 420 to 450 Nm.
