After much delay, Lexus Malaysia has made the super luxury LC 500 flagship available for orders. The Lexus LC 500 with Sport+ needs no introduction as it is Lexus’ most desirable and attractive sedan the world has ever known. The LC 500 was unveiled to the world in July 2017.
At a glance, the LC500 cuts a striking semblance to the world’s finest Luxury Coupes, thanks to sculptured lines, broad shoulders and a purposeful aerodynamic silhouette.
Visually, the LC 500 is all about desirability with its athletic prowess featuring sensual curves and emotional forms highlighted by a flowing glass roof, to give a low, wide imposing stance.
The LC 500’s front fascia features a powerful interpretation of Lexus’ distinctive grille, bordered by chrome on three sides and a radical new 3D mesh design. The “L”-shaped daytime running lights rest below a new Triple LED headlight unit, specially designed to include one of the industry’s thinnest projectors enabling a low hood with a short front overhang. Functional venting also plays into the LC 500’s exterior design to help improve aerodynamic stability and cooling.
From the side, the car is characterized by a sloping roof silhouette, an emphasis on aerodynamics. Dimensions stand at 2,870 mm wheelbase, with compact front 920 mm and rear 970 mm overhangs, and even takes up a low hood height, based on global specs. The curves and flowing lines maintain a consistent tension in sheet metal through to the rear end that features slim, multi-layered rearlights with a unique lighting effect that helps convey a sequential L motif. Additionally, a rear diffuser and available active rear spoiler also help manage airflow during performance driving.
For the Malaysian market, the LC 500 has two new body colors; Blazing Carnelian Contrast Layering and Terrane Khaki Mica Metallic with two new interior colors; Flare Red and Black & Orange.
An Interior of fine Takumi craftsmanship
The superbly-styled cockpit truly makes this one of the most inspiring driver’s cars complimented by Lexus’ famed Takumi craftsmanship. The LC500’s interior offers an amazing blend of modern chic and functional technology. New additions include a Power Easy Access feature where the driver’s seat slides away once the ignition is switched off on top of the steering column stow-away feature making egress ever more convenient. Speaking of convenience, the luxury coupe has Android Auto and CarPlay connectivity and a 10.3-inch Electro Multi Vision (EMV) high definition screen. The display offers pin-sharp 24:9 HD (1280x480) videos and images.
Under the hood
Under its immaculately finished skin lies the impressive 5.0-liter Lexus V8 powerplant with a Dual VVT-i system capable of producing a massive 470 horsepower and an astounding 540Nm of torque. With this output and a kerb weight of under 2,000 kgs, the Lexus LC 500 offers exhilarating supercar-like acceleration, taking just 4.4 seconds to achieve 100km/h from standstill. This luxury coupe takes much of its technical prowess from the race track-bred Lexus LFA.
For 2020, Lexus has introduced a number of enhancements to the LC 500 with particular focus on enhancing its comfort, safety and handling. On handling, the car has reduced unsprung weight of 10 kilograms from key components like the 21-inch rear wheels and forged aluminium front lower arms. This reduction in weight translates to sharper and more precise handling. If that’s not enough, Lexus has added a new performance damper to the rear to compliment the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) control system for a dynamic sports car feel. Coupled with Active Cornering Assist (ACA) control, Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS), Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS) and the re-configured Electric Power Steering (EPS), the LC 500 is ready for anything. Riding with a low and wide stance for improved center of gravity, the LC 500’s dynamically-tuned chassis is highly assuring to drive with its sure-footed handling, aerodynamic aids and massive brakes.
The LC 500 safety suite is fuelled by the Lexus Safety System +, which include the Front Pre-Collision System (PCS), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Lane Keeping System and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) and a new park feature.
The LC 500 is available for previews and orders at Lexus Malaysia’s seven showrooms nationwide at a price of RM1, 250,000.
