\Bentley has introduced updated versions of the 3rd-generation Continental GT, specifically the Continental GT V8 and Continental GT V8 Convertible. The updates however are reserved for the U.S. market currently. The Continental GT is hand-crafted by the folks at Crewe, U.K.
With sentiments to Ultimate Luxury, the Continental GT combines driver-focused performance with exquisite refinement and cutting-edge technology.
Let’s start with the looks, as with Bentleys, both the Coupe and Open-top feature 20-inch, 10-spoke painted alloys wheels (nine designs, up to 22-inch option available), subtle V8 badging and a sublime, handcrafted interior.
The Continental GT hasn’t changed much since its’ debut in 2003, but it has rather evolved further into the current third-generation. Bentley offers seven standard exterior bodywork colors, with an extensive palate of additional paint choices available. Both GT V8 and GT V8 Convertible are distinguished by quad exhaust pipes and subtle V8 badging to the front wings.
The GT V8 Convertible’s tailored roof can be deployed or stowed in just 19 seconds, with the car travelling at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Seven different fabric hood colors are available, including an authentic tweed finish for the first time. Various new items have been added to the open-top version, including neck warmer, electrically adjustable headrests. ‘bullseye’ vents, heated steering wheel and heated armrests. For headlights, the latest Continental GTs carry Matrix LEDs and a form of illumination when the owner approaches the car.
Interior is where a Bentley truly shines, the latest Continental GTs exemplify Grand Touring car’s refinement like no other. It seamlessly integrates natural materials such as the highest quality leathers and rare, veneers into the finest handmade cabin. The highlights include 20-way adjustable seats, color split with options, Crown-cut Walnut on the V8 fascia, wood veneers, and a 10-speaker Bentley Audio system as standard pumping out a powerful 650 watts of entertainment.
At the heart of both the GT V8 and GT V8 Convertible dashboards are an advanced, fully digital, driver-focused instrument panel and the optional Bentley Rotating Display. The latter features a 12.3-inch touchscreen housed in a three-sided unit, which revolves the veneer to reveal the touchscreen, as well as three analogue dials. For the open-top version, there’s a range of eight roof lining colors.
Both V8s are equipped with a new-generation 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged engine developing 542 bhp (550 PS) and 770 Nm of torque.
Bentley Continental GT: Unrivalled Ride and Handling
The driving dynamics of the Continental GT V8 and GT V8 Convertible offer the driving character expected of a class leading Grand Tourer, along with the opportunity to explore the range of performance the car has to offer via the Bentley Drive Dynamics selector, which allows a choice from comfort to sport mode. Related elements that make the GT agile and nimble are the anti-roll bars, air suspension, all-wheel drive system, and a wide range of driver assistance features, such as Active Lane Assist, Traffic Jam Assist and Park Assist, as well as Continuous Damping Control.
Delivery is set for quarter three in the U.S., while other countries get it from 2020.
