- myTukarCares aims to direct the funds towards helping over 10,000 families
- myTukarCares is a partnership campaign between myTukar, MyGroser, The Food Purveyor, and a number of NGOs
- Funds will be raised via three channels - myTukar and its employees, transactions made via the myTukar platform, and through existing business partners and customers
Kuala Lumpur, 8th July 2021 – The digital used car marketplace, myTukar, today launched the fundraising campaign #myTukarCares, in support of Malaysian communities in need. With a target to raise over RM1 million, the campaign aims to provide support and assistance to over 10,000 families across the country facing economic hardships during the current Movement Control Order (MCO), put in place due to COVID-19.
Running from July to the end of August, myTukarCares is a partnership campaign between myTukar, MyGroser, The Food Purveyor (TFP), and several non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The NGOs involved are Free Makan, Making Orang Asli Mother’s Independent (MOAMI), Seri Jayanti Welfare Organisation, Pejabat Adun Kampung Tunku, The Hope Branch, Care & Share Circle (volunteer group), and the Dignity for Children Foundation. Through this, myTukar will raise the funds via three different channels - donations from myTukar and its employees, transactions made via the myTukar platform, and through contributions from existing business partners and customers.
“We started this campaign to support Malaysians that are in dire need of food and essentials. In support of this cause, almost all the revenue generated via myTukar transactions will be donated to the NGOs that we are working with. We also pledge RM50 for every car sold and RM100 for every car bought through our bidding platform. Internally, we have already managed to raise over RM100,000,” said Jeffrey Ong, CEO of myTukar.
An online marketplace that offers a comprehensive range of services for all aspects of car ownership, myTukar connects buyers and sellers nationwide, through a digital bidding platform, enabling them to sell or buy a vehicle, from the comfort of their own homes.
Through this collaboration, MyGroser will be providing top-up support, contributing proceeds from the purchasing of their Malaysia, Together voucher. For every RM1 spent, myTukar will add on an additional 20 percent. Once the funds have been raised, myTukar will be working with NGOs like Free Makan to identify families in need.
“MyGroser has always focused on convenience, flexibility and value. Our purpose has always been to serve the needs of our communities and customers. Today , more so than ever we need to come together as a nation. With myTukar and like minded partners, we will be able to provide and help as many communities as we can. Our own Malaysia Together campaign offers our customers a chance to contribute in whatever way they can with the purchase of vouchers. Every little bit helps” said Stephen Francis, CEO MyGroser.
On the other hand, TFP will also be acting as a food supplier to this campaign, ensuring that essentials are delivered to the families. Established in 2017, TFP is a full-fledged chain of premium grocers across the Klang Valley. They currently operate three supermarket brands: Village Grocer, Ben’s Independent Grocer (B.I.G.) and Pasaraya OTK.
Commenting on the partnership, Geoff King, the CEO of Food Purveyor, said, “During these trying times, when many Malaysians are calling out for help, we are proud to join hands with myTukar, bringing everyday essentials to those in need of assistance. With COVID-19 upending numerous lives globally, and with the government and frontliners fighting to combat the spread of the virus, it is up to businesses to step up to the plate, to lend a helping hand to the community and people at large.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has penetrated all levels of society, and has affected hundreds causing hardships and economic fallout. Through this initiative, myTukar hopes to be able to provide the support needed for Malaysians to get back on their feet while ensuring that their families are taken care of.
