The Lexus LC 500 Convertible (Roadster) has made its grand world debut at the LA Auto Show. The Convertible joins the Coupe version as aspirational ‘halo’ models for Lexus.
As Lexus’ top model, the LC 500 needs no formal introduction. The flagship model takes up the finest things inside and out. At a glance, the open-top version features the same unique roofline as the Coupe. As a convertible, the LC 500 is absolutely Gorgeous!
Measuring 4,750 mm long, 1,920 wide and 1,350 mm tall, the LC 500 open-top features an extended bonnet and shorten rear overhang. The wheelbase of the car is 2,870 mm giving ample legroom and allowing driver and front passenger to move seats back.
This beautifully-crafted Roadster is 50:50 in weight balance with emphasis on aerodynamics. The soft-top roof provides a unique silhouette and sporty demeanor. Furthermore, the line of the rear trunk lid has been lifted and widened to create a dynamic side view and emphasize the low-and-wide stance.
With the soft frameless top down, which opens in 15 seconds flat and closes in 16 seconds, the beautiful silhouette is retained. The top goes under an integrated tonneau cover, at up to 50 km/h. The roadster’s profile is further characterized by a body that wraps around the cabin, providing an overall tight and clean appearance. The cabin is just what you’d consider Supreme thanks to features like gradating quilting and perforation pattern on the upper portion of the seats, "L" logo embossed on the back of headrests, and an animation display within the instrument gauges. To further enhance the driving experience, the LC 500 Convertible comes equipped with neck heaters and a transparent wind deflector.
Sound management is a key part of Lexus' DNA, and the interior space of the LC 500 Convertible stimulates the senses with emotional engine sounds. Active Noise Control (ANC), combined with sound insulation and absorption techniques are some of the elements that ensure top-notch NVH levels, Meanwhile, the high-end audio system faithfully reproduces the original sounds of each instrument, vocals and recording environment.
Making driving even more enjoyable, the Roadster houses the Lexus Climate Concierge, used to automatically control air conditioning, seat heaters, neck heaters and steering wheel heater.
Body structure of the LC 500 open-top has optimal placement and shape of braces to yield high dynamic performance according to the driver’s desires. The brace is composed of lightweight die cast aluminum to minimize added weight, and a "Performance Damper 2" is adopted for high-quality ride comfort. Other braces are located under the body, and materials such as magnesium and aluminum are used to achieve both high rigidity and light weight.
At the heart of it all is the car's robust and sensual sounding N/A 5.0-liter V8, the LC 500 Convertible accelerates in a pleasantly linear manner. DirectShift-10 automatic transmission is paired to the powertrain to give the LC linear-yet invigorating acceleration. Power output is tuned according to the driving scene, with smooth acceleration character during normal commuting, and acceleration at the limit when the driver desires. In order to make the LC 500 Convertible's V8 more exhilarating when the top is down, a sound generator transmits sensual engine intake sounds through the dash panel, while an exhaust valve enhances the ‘rumbling’ effect.
The new LC 500 Convertible is meant for the U.S. market and scheduled to go on sale in second quarter of 2020.
