The Renault Megane R.S. is no stranger in Malaysia with a cult following amongst performance hot hatch enthusiasts. With that in mind, Renault Malaysia decided to unveil the Megane R.S. 280 Cup, the latest rendition of the Megane R.S. line-up. The 280 designation also meant the starting retail price is close to the 280,000 mark; it’s exactly RM 279,888.

With the 280 Cup, the Megane R.S. has come full circle with a segment exclusive 4CONTROL Chassis, a new 1.8-liter engine and gearboxes, a more in-your-face design with an attractive color and technologies that boost sports car experience.
When it comes to design, the Megane R.S. is right up there with the Golf GTis, Focus STs, and what sets it apart is its expressive and sporty styling, With the 280 Cup, the details have been extended; the front has been widened by 60mm and the rear by 45mm. Ride height is lowered by 5mm compared to the Megane GT. Meantime, new 19-inch wheels simply provides the car a more masculine outlook. Highlights of this Iconic Renault include a wide air intake in the front bumper, a 3D honeycomb-pattern grille mesh, sculpted body sides, wing-mounted air extractors, side sill and the rear’s more compact spoiler, diffuser and black blade. A speciel color is exclusive to the Megane R.S. and it’s the dazzling Orange Tonic!
Inside, the Renault Megane R.S. is instantly recognizable from previous generation, with its familiar sport seats/headrests, aluminium pedals and a reworked gearknob. Charcoal weaved fabric upholstery is standard, along with Red top-stitching in a charcoal grey trim
The Renault Megane R.S. 280 Cup comes with a new version of the 1.8-liter direct injection, twin-turbo engine that develops a power output of 280PS (205 kW) at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 390Nm available from 2,400 to 4,500rpm. The powertrain includes either a six-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission EDC. Drive modes available are carried over, including Comfort, Normal, Sport and Race.

Renault Sport’s chassis and suspension system experts have extensively revised the settings of the 4CONTROL system in order to adapt it to a high-performance sports car. This has created an even more efficient driving experience, giving drivers the feeling that the car is literally glued to the road.
The 280 Cup’s 4CONTROL system delivers outstanding agility through tight turns and impressive cornering stability at higher speeds. Included since the first generation of Megane R.S. that appeared in 2004, the independent steering-axis front suspension epitomises Renault Sport’s expertise in chassis and suspension systems.
The front axle of the 280 Cup Renault Megane R.S. has been entirely redesigned in order to adapt the negative offset geometry to the width of the 19-inch wheels and increase rigidity. Suited to intense sports-style use and especially for driving on racetracks, the Cup chassis offers a 10% stiffer damper system and a new Torsen mechanical, limited slip differential.
WITH GREAT PERFORMANCE, COMES RELIABLE BRAKING
The braking system has been improved, offering drivers greater power, endurance and therefore confidence behind the wheel. The diameter of the front brake discs has been increased to 355mm (+15mm compared with the previous generation). The Brembos are of course painted Red.
