Ferrari has introduced the 488 Challenge Evo at last weekend’s Finali Mondiali at the Mugello Circuit.
The Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo has been fitted with an Evo kit that increases the car’s overall performance and much improved handling. In order words, maximizing aerodynamics for a higher downforce and vehicle dynamics. In addition, new Pirellis are standard to indentify it as racetrack ready.
The 488 Challenge Evo E-Diff3 and F1-TCS control systems based on the Side Slip Control (SSC) now comes with dedicated settings. This helps maximizing agility in cornering and traction on exit.
The Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo styling
Styling has to be altered to accomodate the 30 percent aerodynamics increase from the normal 488 Challenge. The length of the front overhang has been altered to boost overall downforce and optimize the balance. The profiles of the radiator grille intakes have been lengthened and, at the center of the bumper, a U-shaped intake feeds the front brakes and underlines the 488 Challenge Evo's sporty character. In the lower part of the bumper, a large splitter with turning vanes at the ends improves the control and direction of the airflow from the side vents.
Changes are made to the sides of the bumper with second side flicks added. The car has 50% more overall downforce, as a result. Other alterations include small wing with endplate and air vents on the sides, as well as a new air vent set in the engine air outlet grille.
The driver can now modify downforce without having to change the ride height, from available configurations ranging from high downforce to low downforce.
Braking is a lot more efficient thanks to a new front disc design and larger rear discs, along with the Pirelli 275/675-19 (front) and 315/705-19 (rear).
Interior bred for one purpose
As you’d come to expect of all Ferraris, the 488 Evo kicks it up a notch with a racing-inspired theme, inherited from the FXX-K Evo and 488 GTE. New for the 488 Challenge Evo is a new ABS management strategy with 2 dry and wet modes each and a new rear camera.
Ferrari’s Evo kit upgrade is available for existing 488s and selected Prancing Horse cars.
