Fast forward to today, the  recovery movement order control is in effect and Malaysian roads have seen more traffic jams on a daily basis as people start to report to work and go out a lot more often. Here’s the thing, many owners have faced mechanical issues with their cars from a 3-month hiatus and many even forget or procrastinate to renew their road tax and insurance.

According to the 2018 statistics from the Road Transport Department (JPJ), there are about 29 million registered vehicles in Malaysia. Out of this, only 19 million vehicles renew road tax every year and about 95% of those with expired road tax are motorcycles.

According to insurance firms, over two million road taxes remain expired as JPJ was shut down during the lockdown.  In an effort to help address tMalaysia’s alarming number of uninsured vehicles on the road, several General Insurance companies iare coming up with app or pay-at-kiosk to assist people on motor insurance and road tax renewals. For example, Zurich General Insurance partners Finology and PayLink to provide insurance and road tax renewal services via pay kiosks.

With these easy renewal services, road users will get seamless convenience when it comes renewing their road tax or purchasing motor insurance for their cars and motorcycles. There are approximately 250 kiosks at offices of utility companies, shopping malls and government buildings where people can easily pay and renew their insurance and road tax. However, there are many who still prefer paying cash or who do not own a credit card. In this day and age, it is simply just so much more efficient to use apps or pay-at-kiosks to eliminate all the hassle and observe social distancing. Furthermore, these self-service payment kiosks are operational 24 hours, 24/7.

For those who haven’t signed up for online payment apps or tried self-service payment kiosks, it’s to time enable insurance purchasing and road tax renewal with one of the above methods.
