The Audi Q5 has now received further updates with the announcement of the Edition 1 version. The Edition 1 joins the Sport, S Line and top-of-the-line Vorsprung variants to complete the Q5 line-up.
The Audi Q5 Edition 1 has been extended in length by 19 milimeters to 4800 mm, while the width and height remain at 1890 mm and 1660 mm. At the front, the larger bumpers are paired to a wider singleframe grille (Edition 1 and Vorsprung editions) and higher-placed air intakes. LED headlights give way to the Xenons with DRLs (daytime running lights) for the base S variant, Matrix headlights are standard for the S Line, Edition 1 and Vorsprung editions.
In profile, the latest Q5 has a more streamlined look thanks largely to its redesigned sill insert and a new chrome trim running between the light clusters and a new diffuser insert at the rear. The diffuser is finished in either Selenite silver, matt brushed aluminium or Titanium black depending on variants. For the UK market, the Edition 1 has new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, privacy glass and matt-black diamond-finish 20-inch Audi Sport wheels (21-inch on the Vorsprung edition). Other details that make the Q5 Edition 1 much more desirable than the Vorsprung variant include black styling pack, white or black paint and new green or blue shades. The Vorsprung has more options than all other variants including three light signature designs with configurable OLED rear lights.
Inside, the main highlight is the larger, floating 10.1 MMI display and the absent of a rotary controller, replaced by storage slots. The Modular Infotainment Platform with MMI Navigation is now more powerful than ever. At the same time, the 12.3-inch Virtual Audi Cockpit is more intuitive and offers seamless connectivity.
The Q5’s front sport seats are upholstered in Twin Leather in the base Q5 version, Alcantara and leather in the S line variant or diamond stitched Fine Nappa leather in the Edition 1 and top flight Vorsprung. As befits the Vorsprung version, the Q5 gets an extended upholstery pack which takes in the lower section of the center console and the door armrests, plus full electric adjustment and a massage function for the front seats. The outer rear seats are also upgraded to match the front seats throughout the line-up. Lastly, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system sums up the Q5 Edition 1’s incredible array of offerings.
Engine options for the Q5 consist of TDI and TFSI engines, which will include an e plug-in hybrid variant in the near future. Audi’s first wave of Q5s will carry the 40 TDI quattro badge exclusively, meaning that they are equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with peak power increased from 190PS to 204PS, and peak torque of 400Nm.
Some of the notable driver’s assistance systems for the Q5 are cruise control, Pre sense city collision avoidance and mitigation system, hill descent control and a reverse camera. Adaptive cruise control and a higher level of pre sense system are reserved for the upper Q5 variants.
To make the drive more engaging, the Q5 has the advanced quattro system to work in tandem with conventional spring and lightweight multilink front and rear suspension (all except Vorsprung version). Exclusive to Vorsprung Q5 is an adaptive air suspension system that can vary the ground clearance of the bodyshell in five stages.
