Toyota Malaysia today unveiled the 12th Generation Corolla for the domestic market. As a core model of Toyota’s line-up in Malaysia since 1966, the Corolla line has accumulated some 150,000 units, prior to the New Corolla.
For the New Toyota Corolla, there are two variants the 1.8 E and 1.5 G, priced 128,888 and 136,888 respectively. The price point for the Corolla is relatively preserved from the previous generation to appeal to new buyers and people looking to upgrade from a B-segment to C-segment.
The design philosophy for the New Corolla is simply “what’s not broken, don’t fix it”. New exterior elements are the LED Daytime running lights incorporated into the headlights to go with the double J-shaped chrome-plated ornamentation, giving the Corolla a wide and sleek appearance at the front (Corolla 1.8G). At the side and from the rear, the styling is inherited from the previous generation, pretty much.
The New Corolla is defined by what’s inside. Cabin and boot space attain satisfactory proportions. There’s a new instrument panel design with a more elegant appearance than before, with the inclusion of an optitron 7-inch MID meter that allows analog and digital view, a panoramic view monitor in 3D, electrochromic rear view mirror, leather-wrapped steering with shifters and a Sport mode switch, rear sunshade, and a wireless charger pad.
An efficient 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE 4-cylinder engine, paired to a 7-speed CVT, gives an output of 139 PS and peak torque of 172 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
Safety aspects for the New Corolla is shared, featuring the famed Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite, which comprises Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) Steering Assist and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) All Speed and Automatic High Beam (AHB). Standard equipment include 7 airbags, seats with 3-point ELR seatbelts, VSC with Traction Control, ABS, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and TPMS (Tyre Pressure Warning System). The top flight Corolla even got Electric Parking Brake and Brake Hold feature.
And that’s not all, the New Corolla comes with an optional Vehicle Telematics System (VTS), which uses satellite to track the car, in the event of theft.
The New Toyota Corolla comes in five body colors: Celestite Gray Metallic (new), White Pearl CS, Silver Metallic, Red Mica Metallic and Attitude Black. Bookings for New Corolla are already opened weeks earlier at all Toyota dealerships nationwide.
